Already having played trumpet for many years, I thought it'd be fun to get a flugelhorn to blow some mellow tunes on.
I was looking for recommendations. I'm willing to spend more than what you'd spend on a bottom-of-barrel brand, but want to end up somewhere under $1K. Is there a good brand/model to be had out there for that kind of bread? A used horn is fine with me. Is somewhere around $500 realistic?
(Does anyone remember the "Imperial" flugel that used to be sold brand new in downbeat magazine for $199? (The was in the mid-1980s. A buddy of mine in our wedding band had one and it actually played nicely--at least for that type of music.)
