Hello everyone! I was wondering what is the best way to hold my trumpet. I see many of my peers hold their trumpet with their middle or ring finger in the third valve slide ring, and their thumb in the first valve slide saddle, and their pinky finger on their right hand gripping the pinky ring very tight.
I hold my trumpet with my index finger in the third valve slide ring, thumb on first valve slide saddle, and my right hand pinky floating in the air, not touching the ring.
I have not seen any of my classmates hold their instruments like I do before, and I am wondering which one is more effective for playing, and what the best way is to hold the trumpet.

I'm still figuring out the best way to hold my trumpet, but I've found that using my index finger in the third valve ring feels most comfortable for now. I'm working with my teacher to ensure I'm not developing any bad habits and will try other positions as I progress.
